So, your wedding is about a month away. You’ve booked all of your vendors, your guests have booked and paid for all of their travel, you’ve bought the attire, and you have any day-of beauty appointments set up. It seems like everything has come together nicely, but it’s now time to reconfirm everything! I know it seems like reconfirming is a waste of time- you’ve booked your vendors and probably paid for most of them, so why follow up?
Well, just checking in will often times remind your vendors that they need additional information from you. In some very rare cases, vendors may have actually forgotten and you have to start from square one!!! I personally thought twice about reconfirming, but I’m certainly glad I did! One of my flight times had changed and it caused me to have to change a meeting time with a vendor. The airline never sent out a notice, so had I not pulled up the reservation, I would have had one unhappy vendor waiting for me at the airport. I also reminded the hotel that they needed my connecting flight information so they could arrange transfers that were free! I would have ended up paying for a transfer had I not reconfirmed and found out. I also found out that the resort wedding coordinator was no longer there, so it enabled me the chance to touch base with the new planner and make sure she was aware of all of the details. Thankfully, she was, and she rattled off the list to me so I knew for sure. Taking the time to reconfirm, and having your guests reconfirm their plans with the travel agent, is worth the time and energy to figure out any issues that may have arisen. Most travel agents receive flight and hotel updates if something changes and they pass the information along to their clients. However, it’s also a good time to touch base with your agent for any last minute questions about where to meet the transfer to the hotel or the ease of exchanging currency upon arrival, for example.
Once you have reconfirmed everything, it’s time to start gathering all of your belongings that you need to pack! It’s very helpful to make a list with your fiance(e) to ensure that everyone’s items are covered. If you need a good place to start for a tropical destination, check out the Tahiti packing list I have put together. True, it’s not wedding specific, but it gives you a start on all of the non-wedding essentials that are easily forgotten in the excitement. Some of our wedding essentials that we included:
-
Wedding outfits
-
Reception outfits
-
Wedding bands
-
Wedding gifts
-
MP3 player for our music
This is obviously a VERY small list. But, it’s a very small wedding! You may have things like out of town bags, flowers, wedding day jewelry other than your wedding rings, hair accessories, favors, etc. That is why it’s important to sit and make a list. You may also want to include your mother or maid of honor in making the list if they are responsible for some items. A lot of destination wedding brides ship their larger items to the resort a month before. This saves a lot of trouble and headache lugging things around the airport. You’ll be so thankful later when you arrive at the resort and everything is already there and ready for the staff to set up.
All that is left now is to get to the destination, enjoy your special day, and soak up the moment!!!
