Westin Desert Willow in Palm Desert, CA – May 2010
June 19, 2010

We love to travel to Palm Springs and use our timeshare because it’s only a three hour drive and a lot like being at home without actually being at home! This resort has received some negative reviews, but as a Starwood Owner, I know they have a great deal of construction still ongoing at this property and this property will improve upon most of the negatives as it continues to grow! It’s only a 1/4 of it’s true size! Starwood Vacation Ownership Properties vary a bit in how they are set up and run from standard Westin resorts, so that too lends itself to some confusion if you are not accustomed to the Vacation Ownership experience. For example, you won’t get room service here, nor should you expect it at SVO properties. Also, they usually will not recognize your Starwood status. You get what you book. It’s very rare that they will upgrade, but it has happened. You will earn points for your stay if you book using the timeshare option, but you do not earn points for anything else since your room cost is part of what you own. So my suggestion is that if you want a true resort experience with Starwood, make sure you do not book at a SVO property.

As I mentioned above, Desert Willow is a growing resort. The first phase thus far is very nice, with an exceptional golf course and friendly pool side service. You can choose to bring your own food or drinks with you to the pool, as we normally do, but we always reserve one or two days to be pampered. We actually just end up walking back to our room at lunchtime and cooking our own meals in our own kitchen. At Desert Willow, you also have the option of taking the golf cart shuttle to and from the room! The rooms are very modern, with colors to reflect the desert. Tans and greens create a soothing environment, just like a typical Westin. We stayed in a one bedroom unit, but took a peak at the larger portion of the of the lockoff suite and thought that much nicer. Not that our room wasn’t nice, but I like having the larger kitchen. We actually own a 2 bedroom lockoff, but stayed in the smaller one bedroom to save on StarOptions. When Desert Willow is complete, it will have more than just one pool area swarming with families, better access to dining, and it will be much more spread out. Construction will continue well into 2012 or beyond. They had some buildings under construction while we were there, but we did not notice any noise or issues.

I can say that the whole timeshare thing is a mixed blessing. It has saved us a lot of money, because going to Palm Springs costs the same as just being home, but having the timeshare locks you in to a set vacation each year. For me, it’s difficult because I’m always traveling to different places. Timeshares are great for those who really enjoy an area and want to go back each year, and I guess in my case, going to Palm Springs every other year (I don’t own annually there) is not so terrible! I may end up selling my unit at some point, but until then, we’ll plan on our Palm Springs adventure in 2012!

Moorea, Bora Bora and Tahiti, French Polynesia – March 2010
March 22, 2010

Another year and another fabulous trip! Visiting French Polynesia never gets old, and each time I go, I discover something new and wonderful. During this visit, my discoveries were quite bountiful, as I visited 11 properties on 3 islands, and even the 2 properties I had visited on prior trips had some exciting new updates! I have never been as busy on vacation as I was on this trip, but the effort turned out to be extremely worthwhile, even if I did have to endure remnants of Tropical Cyclone Sarah for the first 3 days.

Zoetry Casa Del Mar, Los Cabos – January 2010
January 28, 2010

In 2009, I had a stellar year as a travel agent! As a reward for being the top selling agent at Easy Escapes Travel, I won a 3 night stay at any AMResort (Dreams, Secrets, or Zoetry brands).  Zoetry Casa Del Mar had just opened in December, so I figured an agent needed to get down there ASAP to check out the latest in luxury all-inclusives. Who better than me, right? It’s only a 2 hour flight and I love small, intimate hotels. It turned out to be a wonderful trip, not to mention I escaped the worst weather Phoenix has seen in years!

(NOTE: This resort is no longer available)

The Travel Agent versus The Internet
January 18, 2010

In the age of the internet, a lot of travelers have bypassed the traditional travel agent to book their adventure through an online booking engine. It seems like common sense- it is quick, seemingly cheaper, and can be done while sitting in your pajamas after watching Saturday Night Live.

Tahitian Wedding Guidelines
December 9, 2009

Now that getting married in Tahiti is legal for foreign visitors, several things must be kept in mind when planning your perfect day! The following guidelines must be followed to ensure that your ceremony is legal and binding (a wedding coordinator at the resort in which you would like to hold your ceremony will help you meet all of the requirements):

BMW European Delivery Trip – September 2009
September 30, 2009

I have to start off by saying that I’m truly blessed. Not once, but now twice, I’ve been able to participate in the BMW European Delivery program and this time, it was really special thanks to the new innovation and technology on display at BMW Welt. I also tried to capture more of the authentic side of Europe this time around. Rather than staying in some of the most luxurious, highly-rated hotel/resorts that side of the pond, I tried to choose some smaller, family-run hotels that brought out Europe’s old world charm. I have to admit there were a few more hiccups on this trip than I would have cared for, but I suppose it’s all part of the adventure of discovering new places on your own. This time, we headed north by northwest, traveling through Munich, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Eltville-Erbach, Epernay/Reims, Bruges, and ending the trip in Amsterdam.

Secrets Silversands, Secrets Maroma, Zoetry Paraiso del la Bonita & various resorts in Cancun, Mexico – July 2009
July 31, 2009

For Easy Escapes Travel’s 10th anniversary, our wonderful owner, Cathy, organized a fabulous trip to Cancun, Mexico! While for many it was the chance to meet some of the newer agents, for me it was my very first agency activity since I am not based in New York (or anywhere near the East Coast!) The trip ended up being more than just a great chance to tour some gorgeous properties in the area. It also was a great way to unwind and exchange ideas with other agents.

Huahine, Raiatea, Taha’a, and Tahiti, French Polynesia – March 2009
March 31, 2009

As a Certified Tahiti Specialist Travel Agent, I had the wonderful privilege and opportunity to travel to French Polynesia for the 1st annual Tiare Agent Conference. The conference was held at the Radisson just outside of Papeete over the course of 2 days, but I was able to visit Huahine, Raiatea, and Taha’a prior to attending the conference. I had the pleasure of traveling with my friend and fellow agent, Caroline, who is also a Certified Tiare Agent. As always, it was an outstanding trip and the information I gathered is invaluable.
